Cables & Hubs
Matched to what you actually need to plug in
Updated · Research-based, not lab-tested · How we review
A hub does not add capability to your laptop — it carries, or divides, what a single port already has. That is why these five are not interchangeable: the right one depends on whether you need a second screen, a card reader, a permanent desk setup, or nothing more than video. Before any of them, confirm your laptop's USB-C port actually carries a display signal. If it does not support DisplayPort Alt Mode, no hub on this page will produce a picture — that check is worth two minutes before you spend anything. Every pick below links to a full review with what the manufacturer states and what we could not verify.

HDMI on a hub works only if the laptop's USB-C port carries DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt. No hub or dock changes that.
Will it work with my laptop? →Many hubs output 4K at only 30Hz. Look for 4K 60Hz in the listing, and expect it to depend on the laptop's port as well.
A hub keeps part of the charger's power for itself, so a 100W charger delivers less to the laptop through a hub than direct.
Why charging is slower through a hub →Power (60W, 100W, 240W) and data (USB 2.0 through 40 or 80Gbps) are separate. Thunderbolt 4 cables must carry 100W and 40Gbps; Thunderbolt 5 cables 240W.

MOKiN

Anker
A practical USB-C hub for adding HDMI, wired networking, and more ports to a laptop. Its appeal depends on your computer fully supporting USB-C video output.

If you are unsure, start with the all-rounder: a 5-in-1 USB-C hub covers a display, a couple of USB devices, and charging for most people, and it travels. Move up to a dock only when the cable ends up permanently attached to one desk. And remember the budget — running an external display, gigabit Ethernet, and fast storage at once will slow at least one of them down.
